      Division: Biologics Global Manufacturing and Supply (GPS)- Syracuse, New York
                              Microbiological Control
      • Must be enrolled in school the semester of and/or during the assignment, as well as the semester following the assignment, with a 3.0+ GPA
      • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) from June 1, 2019 - mid August 2019
      • Qualified candidates will have completed sophomore, junior, level coursework towards a Bachelor degree or enrolled in a Master program in Biology, Microbiology or Biotechnology with completion of a course in general microbiology.
      • Demonstrated problem solving ability, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills.
      • Technical writing ability required, as well as expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to perform statistical data analysis.
      • Previous work experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or a related industry preferred.
      • This position is laboratory-based position that requires appropriate levels of personal protective equipment (PPE).The role will oversee/conduct microbiological studies in support of bioburden and endotoxin testing as well as aseptic operations including environmental monitoring and cleaning/sanitization programs.This position will require work with microbiological media and challenge microorganisms and include contact with cleaning/sanitization agents.The position is based indoors and will be working primarily with others but also independently.
      • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Frequent repeated motions such as pipetting, lifting, bending, twisting, squatting, crouching, kneeling, climbing on step-stools and reaching.Repetitive use of arms/hands, wrists and grasping required.Office based work requires sitting and frequent use of computers.Vision (acuity, color correction allowed) required for interpretation of laboratory results.

      • Strong analytical skills with capability to collect, analyze, and interpret data by leveraging appropriate systems technology including LIMS, Word, Adobe, Excel and Power Point.

      Project Description: Please provide a comprehensive description of the assignment(s).
      Conduct special microbiological studies by applying basic microbiology knowledge and laboratory skills to enhance QC testing capabilities and microbial control program and advance aseptic operations.  Studies may include:
      1. Evaluate alternate test methods for gel-clot water testing and identify optimal cost effective methodology to enhance testing efficiency and data trending capabilities.
      2. Develop and conduct incubation studies to support alternate incubation scheme.
      3. Further implement 5S principles into new QC Microbiology Laboratory space.
      Key Deliverables at Project Completion:
      Intern will present the results from their specific assignments at the conclusion of the internship.
      Key Learnings:
      Interns will gain better understanding of QC Microbiology and aseptic operations as it applies to microbial control of biopharmaceutical manufacturing operation along with development of GMP compliance knowledge.
